Welcome back everyone! We would like to wish all of our supporters a very happy New Year. We would like to update you on our progress in 2015 and our goals for 2016.
First of all, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to all of the donors who supported us during our Indiegogo campaign. We are proud to announce that the campaign raised USD $7000 - our most successful fundraising campaign ever! With that being said, we have many exciting fundraisers planned for the new year.
So far at the beginning of this semester, one of our main goals was to increase our opt-out fee to 75 cents. With our dedicated team, as well as with the help of Queen’s students, we were able to gather 400 signatures to petition our student government, the AMS. As a result, we were able to successfully achieve AMS approval for an increased optional student fee of 75 cents, which will directly fund the Nyantende Foundation. Currently we are waiting on the results of a student vote on January 26th, which will finalize the amount.
We are also working towards putting on a charity concert on March 4th. The concert will feature local Kingston artists and all profits will go to the Foundation’s efforts in the Congo, especially the development of the Educational Technology Centre (ETC).
Although many of these events are surrounded around our Queen’s community, there are many ways that you can continue to support our efforts outside of the university. You can always donate using our website and continue to spread awareness by following and sharing us on our various social media platforms.
Thank you for your continued support! We hope that you will enjoy following the progress in our efforts to support the students of the Nyantende region.
