Welcome back to the Nyantende Foundation blog! This school year, our primary goal is to develop an Educational Technology Centre (ETC) in Nyantende, a community in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Follow our blog for updates on our progress and more information on how to donate!
WHAT IT IS
The ETC will promote digital education by teaching senior students basic computer skills. As seen in The Economist, digital education is revolutionizing traditional education in African schools with incredible results. Experiencing firsthand how to use basic technology will increase the chance of the students’ employment post-graduation. The ETC will not only provide our students with the opportunity to have a better understanding of technology, but will also create a ripple effect that will empower the surrounding communities.
WHAT WE’VE DONE
Nyantende Foundation has secured a safe location, hired experienced instructors, established a sustainable power source, and already donated three laptop/tablet hybrids to the ETC.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
Nyantende Foundation will use Indiegogo, an international crowdfunding website, in an effort to raise $20,000 in support of the ETC. Indiegogo enables us to raise many small amounts of money from a large number of people via the Internet. The online campaign will launch during Congo Week (October 18-24, 2015) and will continue until our goal is met.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
We still need your continued support to equip the ETC with computers, tablets, tables, chairs, and to sustain a salary for our valued instructors. Any donation, however large or small, goes a long way and is greatly appreciated. You can donate on our website now, or next week on Indiegogo. It never hurts to tell your friends!
Feel free to email us with any specific questions you may have about the logistics of the ETC. We’re always transparent!
